HID Headlight VS LED

HID Headlights better known as HID Kits, HID Conversion Kits or HID Lights consists of a pair of HID Bulbs and HID Ballasts. HID stands for High intensity discharge which consists of a quartz glass bulb filled with xenon gas and two metal electrodes that when ignited create an arc of light that produces a substantial amount of lumens. Compared to a halogen bulb which produce approximately 1,000 lumens HID Headlights produce between 3,000 – 5,500 Lumens depending on the wattage of the ballast you choose 35w or 55w. HID Headlights are available in a variety of colors ranging from yellow to white, blue and purple. Added accessories such as relays and cancellers may also be necessary for the proper installation and functionality of the headlights. The life span of HID Headlights range between 6,000 and 8,000 hours.

LED Headlights or LED Conversion Kits is the latest and greatest in lighting technology. What makes LED so great is the fact that it has the greatest lifespan of any lighting technology while drawing the least amount of power. The lifespan of LED is 50,000 hours that’s almost ten times the lifespan of HID Headlights. LED conversion kits have a lumens that range between 4,000 and 8,000 depending on the amount of power they draw and the quality of the chip they use. LED Headlights are not available in nearly as many color options as HID headlights. They are however completely water proof and far more durable than HID’s.

The conclusion is simple. LED kits provide more lumens and last ten times longer than HID headlights. The only drawback is the limited color options which most people don’t mind simply because the benefits significantly out weight the cons.
